NUCLEAR DISASTERS WAITING TO HAPPEN
Chernobyl was the first. We are still reaping the consequences of that disaster with disease, cancer, early deaths, deformed animals and babies, and contaminated seeds and food.
More recently there was Fukushima, initiated primarily by a tsunami that followed the Tōhoku earthquake in March 2011, where not one, not two, but three nuclear reactors malfunctioned and melted down. The disaster was so profound and enormous, that nuclear-laden water was washed into the ocean around the disaster area, spreading far and wide across the Pacific ocean.
It gets worse with Fukushima. After the obviously futile attempt to clean up the site and the surrounding area, there was no place to put this waste somewhere safe. So there are now ACRES of plastic garbage bags full of this cleanup debris, much of it organic material, that have bee placed in certain locations, that are now starting to build up heat and moisture from the materials inside these bags. People in Japan, and even high level officials are freaking out, because they believe it's only a matter of time until the bags burst, or worse yet, literally combust, throwing nuclear contamination into the air, and into the atmosphere, to be carried to other locations via wind and jetstreams.
