The majority of the world's earthquakes occur around the
"ring of fire" a horseshoe-shaped area along the outer edge of the Pacific
Ocean where 3 to 4 of the earth's tectonic plates crash together with
massive pressure, hidden beneath the ocean.
When enough pressure builds up along these fault lines, the earth "pops", causing an earthquake, which in many cases, may be followed by a tsunami. Here are a few recent quakes:
