More on Sarah Palin as VP choice

Well, talk about pulling the rug out from under the Dems...I guess "maverick" McCain wanted to say: "hey, I can make just as historical of a choice as you," especially since choices like Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty were out of the running. It's good to know that McCain can still think outside the box when it comes to the "good old boy" network of politics. That says a lot about him.

SOOO much to say about his choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate! She seems at first like the antithesis of McCain, but the fact that she's a woman AND conservative is sure to rattle a few nerves (esp. with the feminists) I'm thinking it will be like another case of Charles and Diana. He may be the "chosen one," but he'll no doubt be eclipsed by her, because she's better looking, seems more likeable, more approachable, all the stuff he is not. And...is she actually taller than him? :) (might be that hair) Plus her eldest son is serving in the military, she's got a hottie for a hubbie, and just how stinkin cute is her family? (that little Piper is adorable!)

As well here as other photos of Sarah Palin and her family.

So here's the good (and funny) stuff:
  • She has a strong anti-abortion record (she is quoted saying in 2002 that she is as "pro-life as any candidate can be.") w00t!
  • She actually sold the private plane of her predecessor...on eBay no less! Go girl!
  • She has a long history of run-ins with the Alaska GOP hierarchy, giving her genuine maverick status and reformer credentials that could complement McCain's image.
  • She has experience as both a mayor AND a governor, along with an unheard of 90% state approval rating, UNLIKE Barak Obama, who has only been a senator for what, 200 days or something?
  • After she was made head of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, she exposed ethical violations by the state GOP chairman, a fellow commissioner, who then resigned.
  • Her husband is a blue-collar North Slope oil worker who competes in the Iron Dog.
  • Four months into her most recent pregnancy, Palin learned the child would have Down syndrome, but she never had any doubts about whether she would have the baby.
  • She is a proponent of petroleum development as well as other types of energies
  • She favors drilling in ANWR (Arctic National Wildlife Refuge)
  • Her kids have fun funky names: Track, 19 (as in "...and Field"); Bristol 17; Willow 14; Piper, 7, and baby Trig (as in "...onometry").
  • Track enlisted in the Army in 2007 on the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks
  • She is a member of Feminists for Life
  • She led the Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter at her high school
  • She is a lifelong member of the NRA!
  • She has a fishing license
  • She's healthy - jogs and exercises a lot
  • She eloped with her high school sweetheart, Todd Palin, in 1988 to save money on an expensive wedding! (she's a gal after my Dad's heart, that's for sure)
  • Personally, just the fact that she has a husband, FIVE children, and runs a huge state is almost enough management and multi-tasking experience to make me think that being VP would be a piece of cake for her. :)

And the odd stuff:

  • She was (or is) being investigated about the firing of the guy who did not fire her former brother in law (who was married to her sister), while her sister and brother in law were embroiled in a messy divorce. Hmm.
  • At 44, Palin is a generation younger than two of McCain's seven children
  • She is considerably younger than Sen. Joseph Biden
  • She is also three years younger than Obama.
  • She's typically seen walking the Capitol halls in black or red power suits while reading text messages on Blackberry screens in each hand.
  • She made a recent appearance in fashion magazine Vogue
  • *UPDATE* - her eldest daughter Bristol is 5 months pregnant. :(
I like her already. I just hope that life inside the Washington beltway doesn't change her or sulley her in any way...though I'm not holding my breath on that. Washington is a virtual cesspool, or should I say tarpit, and it seems that everyone who sticks their toes into it gets sucked down into the morass.

McCAIN / PALIN IN 2008!!!

Does religion play too much into politics?

Personally, I don't believe it plays into it enough. I also think that politics in general is the work of Satan; I have never known of anyone in politics who has not been sullied in some way by their life in politics. And in spite of what Barack Obama says about "fixing broken politics" in Washington, at this point, there's no such thing as "fixing" it...the entire political structure is broken beyond repair, and NO MATTER WHO is in office, it cannot, and will not, be fixed, without the cleansing power of Christ, which means everyone in politics would have to be followers of Christ. And we all know that will never happen when there is freedom of choice and sinfulness involved.

However some people have created a "manifesto" about religion and politics:

Of course, there is always a rebuttal:

I think I'm actually excited now about the elections!

The more I read about VP pick Sarah Palin (governor of Alaska) the more excited I'm getting.

Wouldn't it be great if the MSM could not dig up any dirt on this woman?

Of course that would never happen, because they would then simply make up stuff.

But this definitely puts a whole new spin on the 2008 elections, WOW!

McCain's VP choice is historic and hardly known

WOW. Talk about a jaw-dropper indeed! McCain, known for being a maverick has made quite a maverick decision in his choice of a Vice Presidential running mate!

Some very interesting points from the article:

Palin, who led the Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter at her high school, could help McCain's standing with social conservatives who have been skeptical of him.

"It's an absolutely brilliant choice," said Mathew Staver, dean of Liberty University School of Law and founder of the legal group Liberty Counsel, who has sought to coalesce evangelicals around McCain. "This will absolutely energize McCain's campaign and energize conservatives."

Palin is "a woman of faith who has a strong position on life, a consistent opinion on judges," Staver said. "She's the complete package."

But Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York said McCain was taking a "roll of the dice" and declared that Palin's "lack of experience makes the thought of her assuming the presidency troubling."

Uh...Senator Schumer? Don't EVEN go there. You have nothing to say to that when your own candidate has an extremely limited background of his own. The lack of experience of one Barack Obama is limited to less than 200 days as a senator. So don't play that card.

If I can be so chauvenistic, she is nice looking, always a plus. :)
