Norman Thomas knew what was going to happen to our country in 2009.
Norman Mattoon Thomas (November 20, 1884 – December 19, 1968) was a leading American socialist, pacifist, and six-time presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America.
The Socialist Party candidate for President of the US, Norman Thomas, said this in a 1944 speech:
"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened."
He went on to say: "I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democrat Party has adopted our platform."

The devil is nothing if not intelligent, devious...and so very patient. He's had eons of experience, and (up until lately) had all the time in the world to bring humans to ruination. His arsenal of evil is vast, and consists of things great (war) and small (jealousy) to bring ruin upon those who
want to do good, who
try to do good, from the inside, disguising it all as "change for the better."
One of my favorite authors is
Francis Schaefer, a 1960s Christian theologian, whose ideas about Christianity were quite radical for his time. I can't remember the actual quote (tho the theme of this quote is one I think about it often in these end days), but it said something to the effect of: every new generation accepts more outlandish ideas, and pushes the boundaries of decency as to what was acceptable by the generation before.
- The first generation says: "One cannot show one's ankles in public for fear of causing a stir!"So wears floor-length gowns and constrictive undergarments.
- The next generation says: "What's the big deal? It's just an ankle." And tosses off their corsets, bobs their hair, raises their hems....and starts doing the Charleston.
- Subsequent generations think that the "below the knee" hems of their mothers is too constricting, so they raise them even higher, and start dressing like men, wearing pants and jeans, while burning their undergarments in the streets.
- The following generation pushes the boundaries even further, and starts wearing items once considered undergarments to the office, or on the outside of their clothes, starts looking at hooker and stripper "fashion" as something to actually aspire to, and talks about sex and body parts right out in the open (not to mention how everyone thinks the U.S. needs to be more like Europe!). This is where we are today. Decency and modesty have been tossed out the window under the guise of "freedom," "individualism" and "rights."
In a sense, Schaeffer also predicted change for the worse in our country, because he knew what mayhem successive generations would bring to the world.
