But where our love of death shows
its ugly face most is in our television shows and our movies. Several years
ago, I was thrilled when shows like "Firefly" and "X-Files"
came out. Finally! I thought. TV shows for "thinkers," rather than the shallow insipid meaningless "schadenfreude" style programming that seems to be the norm (it goes without mention that we have become "Idiocracy").
But along the way, things started taking a turn toward the dark side…a very
dark side. And today, the darker the storyline, the better. Sex used to be the big seller, but it seem that even that has been usurped by outright evil and the demonic. Satan's influence seems to be increasing as we get closer to the end, and the "veil" between our world and the spiritual world seems to get thinner.
In the beginning, God gave
us a world of beauty and perfection, yet we chose to rebel against Him and his creation, bringing
sin not only into our lives as individuals, but putting a curse on
our entire world, from top to bottom. This sinful curse will only be lifted when
Christ returns to redeem the world after the Tribulation. In John 3:19 we are given the
verdict: "Light has come into the world, but "men loved
darkness more than light because their deeds were evil." God doesn't mince words: we are corrupt to the core, which is why we need a Savior!
Take a look at the pictures below. These are just a few of some of the recent programs shown on television or cable. They all seem to focus on two things: the darkness of mankind, and of evil influence in general. Below each thumbnail is their "spin" to make them more relatable to the average television viewer ("You, too, can become a big bad respected drug kingpin!" OR "Hungry? It's okay to snack on those who done you wrong!"):
