Every four years, just like the Olympics, the planet is bombarded by World Cup soccer. For everyone else on the planet--except for those of us here in the U.S.--soccer (aka "football") truly is the be all and end all of all sports. To the U.S. it's just one big snoozefest.
Appropriately, I just heard something very interesting on Dennis Prager's radio show.
Apparently, those in the closed-off country of North Korea believe that they are superior in every way to every other race/ethnicity on the planet. Interesting. An entire country with the mindset of their "dear Leader."
However, just today, sports newswires around the globe report that the North Korean team lost--BIG TIME--to Portugal, 7 to 0.
Dennis wondered aloud, just how this loss--a loss of one of the largest gaps ever in World Cup history--will be covered by the North Korean news? Will their athletes be tortured like those in Iran? Of course we may never know, due to the country's media blackout, but hopefully some news will leak out.
This news brings to mind the equally stunning loss of the Germans (the "superior Aryans") to the U.S. in the 1936 Olympics held on their home turf of Berlin, which makes me believe that God definitely has a sense of humor about putting people in their place. :)
