Some of the best audience questions were asked at this rally, but the two that stuck out--and the two who have now gone on to YouTube and Internet fame--are the "angry man," and James Harris, a local black conservative talk show host.
That's right, I said it: black and conservative in the same sentence. O_o
There are a few out there, though sad to say, besides James (who told McCain that he's taken an "ass whooping" from his detractors), the only other black conservatives I can think of I can count on ONE hand: Michael Steele, J.C. Watts, Alan Keyes, Condie Rice, and Colin Powell (tho it seems this may be changing). Why is that? Do people of color see ONLY color in candidates, and refuse to hear the truth? Why that seems small minded and, dare I say it, racist!
Poor James, since the rally, he has actually received death threats about where he stands. But McCain must have taken James' plea to heart, because he definitely came out stronger in this last debate than the other two!
It was a very exciting day; I got to spend time with my parents, the weather was absolutely stunning, the people in line (about 5,000!) were warm and friendly, and the Obama protestors were few and far between. Almost the perfect day, IMO!

FINALLY. John McCain got himself some chutzpah and came out swinging during debate #3, and Obama clearly seemed rattled at some of the responses McCain fired his way. I can only hope and pray that this helps narrow the gap between the two as we go into the home stretch. This is very scary news, but obviously is the wave of the future, especially since Muslims are now pushing the envelope when it comes to anything involving Islam (i.e., foot baths, time out for prayer, etc.). In the Vice Presidential candidate debate last night between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden, both candidates came out swinging--but kept it civil. I think once again "the moose is loose"! And if the MSM is any indication, the very fact that there is little Liberal fallout about Sarah Palin in today's news (at least, from the approx. 20 news outlets that I troll every day) must mean that she definitely did something right! :) Naturally, the MSM called Biden the winner OF COURSE! *eyeroll*
SP was great, she was allowed to be herself (finally...again!), which was the reason people fell in love with her in the first place. Over the last few weeks, her handlers had all but put her into a hermetically sealed bubble, where she was primped, revamped and stiffened to within an inch of her life.
But last night, she hit it out of the park! She touched on all the necessary talking points and rebutted everything Biden threw out. She was humorous, upbeat, professional, prepared and polished, and unlike JB, talked directly to the camera (to the people!) rather than to Gwen Ifill, the moderator. I also liked the fact that she wore an American flag pin well within the range of her camera closeups! Even Gwen Ifill kept herself in check, though there was a point or two where she interrupted Palin...but not Biden. Definitely not the best moderator overall, IMHO.
One thing I noticed about Biden is that it seemed like it took all he could muster to keep it together at certain points. Many times when Palin was speaking, when the camera cut over to Biden, he had the snarkiest, most condescending grin on his face as if to say "little lady, you are so out of your league, you might as well cash it in right now." Biden is a formidable debater, but Palin certainly held her own against him. We don't know what the future holds for us in this election, but I have no qualms about having Sarah Palin as this country's Vice President...or should it come to it, as our PRESIDENT!
Plus of all the candidates, there's just no way around it, she's the best looking one out there! :)

For the first 15 minutes or so of the debate, part of SP's bangs seemed "stuck" to the eyelashes on her left eye, and every time she blinked, the bangs wiggled. And with the camera on her so tightly, it was very noticeable. I kept mentally screaming at her to push her hair out of the way! Finally when the camera cut to Biden I saw her quickly brush it out of the way...but I just know that will be fodder for SNL!

I received a forwarded email from a friend that a rumor is floating around about a terrorist attack around the elections. Yikes. I cannot verify it, but it would not surprise me if they tried something at that time.

New Phenom: weird and creepy "babies"
I just watched a BBC television program last night featuring a strange new "phenomenon." I don't know how new it is, but it was definitely disturbing and very sad. In the way that many people have made their pets their "furry children" in order to fulfill some type of parental hole in their lives, apparently there are also people who spend BIG bucks on...fake babies. And I'm talking big bucks as in, on eBay, one was going for nearly $1,500!
They are called "reborns", but they are quick to note: "New Reborn baby ~ Not Fake Baby ~ Realistic skin tones." Not a fake baby? Hmm.
Granted, they are rather cute, and the people who create these dolls are true artists, because these dolls look SO incredibly real, they could fool any expert. They have human like hair, delicate features, skin veining, perfectly painted lashes, lips and nails, are weighted to feel like a baby, and some can even "breathe" or have a heart that "beats."
The sad part of this TV program was that the women who bought these dolls strolled around town with their "babies" dressed in baby clothes--in a pram (stroller)--even through a crowded playground, where surely the mothers of the children playing would stop to ask questions about the baby in the stroller. One of the women in the story said that these dolls gave her all of the pleasures of a baby, with none of the mess, none the crying, none of the illnesses and expense, etc. All the joy, none of the guilt, apparently. Are these the same type of people who, if it were available, would want the genetically perfect baby, with the perfect hair, features, skin? It just seems like such a sad, hollow grasp of reality, and is another symptom of our growing "me-dominated" society where anything and everything goes. Even Boing Boing agrees.

The sad thing is, many people (including Hollyweird celebs) are behind them, bringing along with them their bottomless pockets.
Case in point, this newest campaign by Peta against Ben & Jerry's ice cream. This campaign of theirs mixes both the gross with the crazy into their own special Peta "flavor."

To some, he may be "just a singer" but his following (and that of U2) is legion. He's very intelligent, and doesn't play favorites. He's met with both Bush and Clinton, as well as other people on opposite sides of the fence, in order to get funding for Africa.
Besides that, Bono is one of the greatest lyricists of our time. His Irish upbringing, his strong faith, and "gift of gab" have helped him write some of the deepest most meaningful lyrics penned in music, and as such, has led U2 to the top of the music charts over and over.

I'm shocked as well. This sounds like it might be a good thing in theory, but these groups are pacifists and anti-Israel, and believe that a good dialogue will solve all of the world's disagreements. It's the Neville Chamberlain thought process.
