Just some of the reasons why this president is so painful...in so many ways.

Swag for the First Family from world leaders:

• England:  The Prime Minister gave Mr Obama an ornamental pen holder made from the timbers of the Victorian anti-slave ship HMS Gannet.  The unique present delighted Mr Obama because oak from the Gannet's sister ship, HMS Resolute, was carved to make a desk that has sat in the Oval Office in the White House since 1880.  Mr Brown also handed over a framed commission for HMS Resolute and a first edition of the seven-volume biography of Churchill by Sir Martin Gilbert.  In addition, Mr Brown and his wife showered gifts on the Obama children giving Sasha and Malia an outfit each from Topshop and six children's books by British authors which are shortly to be published in America. He also gave a first edition biography of Winston Churchill.  And even for Bo, the Obamas' dog, a bone-shaped chew toy adorned with a U.K. flag
• Qatar: wooden case containing a small sword
• Panama: 14-karat gold bird-shaped cufflinks
• China: blue-glazed porcelain hand figurine with a small bird in a yellow display box
• Malaysia: ornate pewter jewelry box with velvet interior
• India: white marble table top with design of inlaid blue and yellow flowers
• Mexico: green, pink, and red-beaded necklace with silver-colored leaf pendants
• Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy (the biggest spender on the list) gave Obama an Hermes golf bag worth $7,750 and Baccarat crystal statuettes of golfers. In all, the Sarkozys gave the Obamas $41,675.71 in gifts that year alone, Agence France-Presse reported.
• German Chancellor Angela Merkel also tapped into the golf theme, giving Obama a putter and training material. Guess she's sending him a message.
• Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper gave POTUS a basketball signed by the NBA's Toronto Raptors.
• Other gifts to Obama were more formal, including a 48-inch bronze statue of Abraham Lincoln by the artist Yuan Xikun given by former Chinese President Hu Jintao, valued at $9,800.
• The most expensive item on the list is the aforementioned art from the president of the Gabonese Republic, Ali Bongo Ondimba. It is a 14-inch blue mask sculpture by Daum on a 10-inch black and silver stand.
• As for the least expensive, the book came from President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj of Mongolia and is called "Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World," by Jack Weatherford.

 

Tacky and inappropriate gifts to world leaders FROM Obama:

• To the Prime Minister of England:  a set of DVDs. Barack Obama, the leader of the world's richest country, gave the Prime Minister a box set of 25 classic American films - a gift about as exciting as a pair of socks.  The DVD gift, perceived as cheesy, didn't even work on British DVD players. "The Fleet Street tabloids … treated this White House gaffe as practically an act of war," British-born editor Tina Brown wrote on her Daily Beast blog. The Obamas gave the Browns two models of the presidential helicopter, Marine One, to take home to sons Fraser and John.  Mrs. Brown has been praised for her well-chosen gifts for the Obama children - but Mrs Obama's gift to the Brown children appeared less thoughtful.  And if that weren't enough of a diss to our greatest ally, Great Britain, Obama also gave back a bust of Winston Churchill, which was given to us on 9/11 as a symbol of unity. He said, "No, go ahead. Take it back." I mean, like, "No, no. Seriously, let it stay here in America. You can put it in a museum." "No, no, take it." You've got to be kidding me, right? 
• The Prime Minister has not had the best of luck when receiving gifts from U.S. presidents.  He was given a fur-trimmed brown leather bomber jacket by George W. Bush during his first trip to America in the summer of 2007.  Commentators gleefully pointed out that the garment was hardly in keeping with Mr. Brown's usual sober attire of business suit and tie.
• What do you get the monarch who has everything? Michelle Obama gave Queen Elizabeth II an iPod loaded with show tunes. That rare Rodgers and Hart songbook and iPod with Broadway show tunes she gave Britain's Queen Elizabeth II? As per routine, it was selected with advice from Buckingham Palace. (The queen collects books and is fond of musicals.)  "An extremely thoughtful gift," declared lied Ann Stock, White House social secretary under President Clinton. "It's something a rare-book collector would like very much."  Queen Elizabeth's iPod also carries photos of the president's January inauguration and she'll be able to hear his inaugural address, as well as listen to Obama's 2004 speech to the Democratic National Convention.  The Obamas got a framed photo of Her Majesty.
• What did the George and Laura Bush give to the Queen when she visited in 2007? President and Mrs. Bush gave Her Majesty a bronze statuette "High Desert Princess" with a personal inscription on the bottom of the base. It is a replica of the original life size statue that is located in front of the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame in Ft. Worth, Texas. President and Mrs. Bush gave Prince Philip an exclusive sterling silver eagle box by Tiffany & Co. with personal inscription on the inside lid.  President and Mrs. Bush also gave Their Majesties a leather presentation box filled with a collection of documents from the National Archives. One of the items was a copy of an original letter from President Roosevelt to her father, King George, written in 1938. There were also photos from previous royal visits and a DVD of the footage from the Queen's visit to the United States when she was Princess Elizabeth in 1951.
• But Obama did not disclose other gift exchanges with the Germans and the Czechs. The Czech press, however, reported that Obama received glassware from Czech first lady Livia Klausova; in return, Klausova said, she got "a nice little American vase" from the Obamas. Also, Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek gave the Obamas a Czech-made Prim watch and a garnet brooch.
• His gift to Angela Merkel: copies of "The World at War" and "Schindler's List" on DVD along with a first edition of "The Diary of Anne Frank."
• Friday, June 22, 2012 - President Tacky Asks Americans For their Wedding Gifts and Birthday Gifts.  I always knew Barack Obama was a tacky many lacking style. This takes the cake.  Barack Obama is asking rather than add a gift to your bridal registry that you ask your guests to just donate to his campaign rather than give you wedding gifts.

Cloud computing - full of hot air?

This is not new or news to me, as I happen to work for a very successful tech company where one of their main business functions is cloud computing.

Unfortunately, I also have a lot of "Google-y" stuff in my life besides the basic on line search engine.  I have a Gmail account, I'm on Google+, and my phone and tablet are both by Samsung, which is hugely tied to Google on various portable computer devices. Seems I can't win. 

And with the way things are going, you really can't go "off grid" even if you wanted to; so much is now tied together, if you happen to close one door, you risk being unable to open several others because of it.

Since 9/11, security in our nation (and the world) has had a pardigm shift.  Everyting and everyone now seems suspect...for some reason or another. How better to keep tabs on it all than, as this whistleblower states in this article from the (UK) Guardian:

MODERN DAY WITCH HUNT

Think there's no such thing as "persecution" in this day and age?  Read on.

The IRS has actually acknowledged that they have been deliberately (and many say flagrantly) holding up various processes of, or ignoring the requests of, groups and organizations that tend to lean conservatively, or of a "right wing" political nature. 

These groups include tax-exempt or nonprofit groups, various church or religious groups; organizations that referenced words such as Tea Party, Patriot, or "9/12 Project" (e.g., Glenn Beck); challenges to (out of control) government spending, debt, or taxes; those advocating or lobbying to "make America a better place to live," following the Constitution and the Bill of Rights; those who criticize how the country is being run overall by President Obama, and those who challenge the Affordable Care Act, known by many as "Obamacare."

Yes, YOU.  And your neighbor.  And your cars, your houses, boats, kids, pets...and Facial Recognition.  Scary stuff. 

Facial recognition is a not-so-new technology that's fast becoming de rigueur in anything relating to "safety" and "security" (both terms used loosely).

Once thought to be fairly inexact and inaccurate, this technology has taken giant leaps forward in its ability to accurately pinpoint you, me, or anyone, in any public location. This means everywhere, from airports, to walking down the street, to being in your car at a stoplight. Google Earth and satellite imagery, from hundreds of miles above the planet, can now pinpoint an area less than a square foot in size (look up "satellite surveillance," or "keyhole satellite").

And don't think your fancy cell phone is exempt.  An Android app called "Faces" demonstrates how this technology--even watered down for a simple app--really isn't so simple at all.  Take a look at the graphic (these are from my own Android phone - I've blocked out the numerous faces that the app pulled up...even I was a little freaked out about how far reaching it is!). 

Big Brother's reach is getting bigger by the day.

Google Google everywhere - but now you can say goodbye

Get ready - this is one of my "rantier" posts.

With our on line lives becoming completely enmeshed and intertwined with our real lives, you can BET that Google will have--if they aren't already--a big part of the whole 'end times/last days' scenario, as far as  technology on the web. While we love the ease and features of Google, their ubiquitous nature is downright creepy.  Personally, I have an Android phone (Galaxy Note II), and while generally I love it, it's run and operated by none other than Google. When I first signed into my slick new phone I immediately had to sign into Google in order to get "all the great features" that Google insists we must have. 

I also have a Google+ account that I opened awhile back because I grew tired of another "seems to be everywhere" web ruler, Facebook, and what they were doing to--and with--their customers' information. So I was rather surprised when, after several months, I logged into Google+ and saw that the photos I had taken with my Android phone had all been automatically uploaded to my Google+ account!  Eek.  Nothing naughty, mind you, but I was very perturbed, so immediately I checked the privacy settings to be sure that they weren't "out there for all to see" (they weren't).  Still...it's a little too much. At least for me.

I'm at the age where I'm kind of on the "cusp"of technology: I work with it, I know about it to some degree, I can understand it to a degree, I "get it"...to a point.  I'm not like my parents genteration who are downright fearful of technology (rightfully so it would seem) and always think they're going to break something when using computers; and I'm not like the generation behind me who have literally grown up with a mouse in their hands (remember the joke about getting a 10 year old to fix the flashing "12:00" on your VCR?).  Being in this middle ground makes me very cognizent of the EFFECTS that technology is having on our virtual lives, and how it AFFECTS us IRL in general (that's "in real life" -- a little web code for you).

On a whim I did a search (ironically, using Google--they're nothing if not good at what they do) for "how to get Google out of your on line life." I got a couple of interesting results that I've shared below.  If you happen to read this Blog, and are also concerned about your on line life and Big Google, be sure to check out these websites for tips on how to "de-google-ize" yourself.  After all, as one of these links mentions:

I have said this for as many years as I can remember, even back before I became a Christian and started to understand more about the end times and what the world will be like before before/during the Tribulation:  the next great global fight won't be over oil, but WATER, and the power to control and distribute it at will.

Not only is water necessary to keep our economy going (name it--water is probably involved in the process in some form or fashion); but as one of the most essential building blocks of life itself--what keeps us alive--I fear that its price will soon become "far above rubies" and other precious metals or gems, and will become wanted, coveted, hoarded, and fought over. 

After all, one can't eat a bar of gold, or snack on a handful of gems, but one needs water to live.

Corrupting Scripture

Borrowing some commentary from various articles about the recent bombings in Boston. This first one is something I've pondered MANY times:

 

It's interesting, the concept behind the Hijabs. They believe that they need to cover up their women so that it does not cause a man to look upon her and sin in his heart. So, you punish the woman by covering her up. It's not her fault that she is beautiful, its the man who has the problem with lust and sin in his eyes and heart!

 

Again, this is a distorted version of Biblical scripture:  Matthew 5:28  - But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

 

America can have plenty of room for Muslim Hijabs, Wiccan Pentagrams, and Sufi Turbans…when Christians can again wear their crosses, pray in schools, fly their flags, and keep their ten commandment monuments and nativity scenes without fear of repercussions.

 

Tolerance, in today's society, and in today's post-modern meaning was never taught in the Bible.  In fact, Christ said that we should bring to light those things that are a hindrance in one's relationship with God, and with His guidance, work to overcome them.  http://tinyurl.com/cw8v2yp  In fact, it's even made more clear that we are not even to associate with those who call themselves Christians, but live a very carnal lifestyle:  1 Corinthians 5:11 "But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one."

 

Pretty "intolerant," right? But remember this is for Christians, or those who profess to be. This is not to say that we should accept and consent to every possible type of debauchery, dysfunction, and hedonism.  We are, however, to give non-believers  a much wider berth to because as non-believers, they can't help themselves—they are simply acting like who they are—sinful humans without Christ, and because they live outside of Christ, their eyes have not been opened to His saving grace (1 Corinthians 2:14 and 2 Corinthians 4:4). 

DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE

Nope nope nope.  I ain't buyin' it.

Just because you say radical Islam is being held up as a scapegoat for all the other Muslims, doesn't mean that this is only a small minority.  Terrorism like this - jihad - is part and parcel of Islamic teachings.  As is deception - called Taquiyya - which involves lying, deceiving, and illusion for the good/glory of Islam. 

Does that sound familiar? It should. John 8:44:  "You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies."

Chechnya by way of Islam

It seems that everything Islam touches--no matter what form or fashion, or where it occurs-- becomes ruined, overturned, injured or destroyed. This is not just my personal opinion (although it is).  This goes back thousands of years to the Bible itself, where God said (paraphrasing): "I have chosen Israel and its people as my chosen ones; if you hate Israel (Jews), there's a price to pay for that hate."

Why is it that so many middle eastern countries are considered "backward" in their thought processes, societal norms and lifestyles? It's because...well, they are.  Back to "Mohammed" apparently. They don't get ahead because they hate Israel and its people. God laid them to waste centuries ago. 

I often wonder what the world would be like if Islam was indeed allowed to take over and rule the world like it has in many countries around the world.  Completely patriarchal, women would have no rights whatsoever, would have to be covered from head to toe, there would be no love, no humor, little laughter, no music, no dancing, no JOY.  What a horrible life!  The life of a God-loving Christian should be one of JOY, not despair!

Naturally, the enemy thinks mayhem this is a good thing, since he wants to take over the world and destroy it.  Why?  Because God made this world, made it glorious and rich with air, food, water, seasons, animals, natural beauty--everything we need for our lives--all things that the enemy wants to destroy. And He made human beings to love, and to be loved back...but he didn't force us to do it (interesting, no?).

This is some of what these young men were subjected to, so rather than coming to the U.S. and assimilating, they instead said "I don't understand them," and so sought to blow up the citizenry.  And it's extremely hard to reason with a mindset like that...because you CAN'T.
